MediaTek to hold global conference on 5G standards (2019/01/18)

It's an exciting time for Taiwan's tech manufacturers, as they race to get ready for the era of mobile internet connectivity. 5G is coming, and it promises to offer blazing speeds at least 10 times faster than 4G. Next week MediaTek will host a major conference where tech leaders around the world will discuss the industry's 5G standards. MediaTek, like many other Taiwanese operators, are betting big on 5G to drive the next wave of company growth.

5G is the key to growth for many sectors, ranging from automotive electronics to virtual reality gaming to artificial intelligence. Around the world, tech manufacturers are racing to create next-generation devices for the 5G market.

Everyone in the industry expects to have compatible products out by 2020. MediaTek is also on track to have products that satisfy our customers' needs by 2020.

Leading integrated circuit designer MediaTek will host a 5G standards conference next week in Taiwan. Hundreds of global manufacturers and more than 300 people will meet to talk 5G, which offers faster speeds and lower-latency connections compared to 4G.

As the world's supply chain for 5G technology takes shape, Chinese tech maker Huawei is being shunned in the markets including the U.S., Japan, and Australia over security concerns. Today MediaTek's representative declined to comment on whether recent restrictions on Huawei could hinder the global development of 5G.
